The DAC method — Causal Auricular Diagnosis®
« A method for analysing the auricle that aims to identify the origin of imbalances in order to build structured clinical reasoning. »
An approach developed by Dr Nadia Volf, MD, PhD, and taught to healthcare professionals in the training programmes organised by AcuSeminars.

A structured reading of the auricle
Causal Auricular Diagnosis (DAC) is a method of analysis taught to healthcare professionals. It offers an ordered way of observing the outer ear in order to guide the practitioner's clinical reasoning — not to replace their judgement, but to give them a reproducible framework for analysis.
Where classical auriculotherapy often focuses on the symptom, the DAC emphasises the process: starting from observation to build a well-argued working hypothesis.
The process
The four steps of the DAC
Read
Observe and map the marks on the auricle using a structured reading grid. This is the methodical observation step, which lays the foundations of the analysis.
Locate
Identify the active points and distinguish what relates to the cause from what relates to the symptom. This distinction is at the heart of the method's « causal » approach.
Relate
Connect the observations to well-argued clinical reasoning, placing each element within an overall understanding rather than in isolation.
Structure
Build, from this analysis, a coherent and well-argued therapeutic strategy, which the practitioner integrates into their practice according to their own judgement.
Why a structured method
A framework for reasoning, not a recipe
Reproducible
One reading grid, applicable from one patient to the next, rather than an intuition that cannot be passed on.
Well-argued
Each step builds on the previous one: the practitioner can explain and justify their reasoning.
Applicable in practice
The method is designed to be integrated into an existing practice, with clinical cases and supervised practice.
Transmissible
Codified into named steps, it can be learned, practised and shared among healthcare professionals.
